Secure OpenClaw Setup

For Founders and Solopreneurs

OpenClaw is powerful. Setting it up right is hard.

OpenClaw can automate hours of your daily work. But getting there? That's a different story.

Most founders spend 8+ hours wrestling with VPS configuration, Tailscale networking, security hardening, and plugin setup—only to end up with something that kinda works.

And even if you get it running, there's a bigger question: what should you actually automate first? The difference between a useful AI assistant and an expensive toy is knowing which workflow to build.

What I Do

I handle the entire setup so you can skip the infrastructure headache and go straight to a working AI assistant:

  • Secure cloud infrastructure — VPS provisioned and hardened, Tailscale mesh networking, locked-down SSH access
  • Find your first workflow — We identify the highest-impact task to automate, based on how you actually work
  • Build until it works — Not "here's a config file, good luck"—I build and test until it's reliably doing the thing
  • 1 month of support included — Questions, tweaks, and troubleshooting after you're up and running

Ongoing support available if you want continued assistance.

Example Workflows

These are real workflows I've built for founders:

  • Coaching call recordings → marketing copy — Transcribe sessions, extract key insights, generate social content
  • Business card photos → CRM entries — Snap a photo, OCR + research, populate your CRM with rich context
  • Pre-meeting briefs — LinkedIn profile, company background, recent news, earnings summary—ready before every call

We'll find the right first workflow for your situation.

Setup Guides

I also keep a practical Agent Setup guide library for teams that want the deeper security, channel, memory, and tool-policy details before or after a setup call.

Start with Agent Setup if you want the full library.

About

I've been contributing to OpenClaw since the first week of the project. I know the codebase, the common pitfalls, and the patterns that actually work.

Beyond OpenClaw: 10+ years building and managing engineering teams at places like Disney, Outlier, and a bunch of startups you've never heard of. I've shipped ad servers handling 10B+ requests/day, learning platforms that TIME Magazine named one of the best inventions of 2020, and a lot of web infrastructure in between.

I run js.la, one of the largest JavaScript meetups in the US, and I've written a couple of popular programming books (Fullstack React, Fullstack Node.js).

But mostly: I actually use OpenClaw every day, so I know what works.

What People Are Saying

David changed my life — and I don’t mean that in the fake testimonial way.

I’ve seen a lot of people promise clarity, leverage, AI, productivity, strategy, etc. Most of it turns into another tool, another meeting, or another thing I have to manage.

What I found with David was different: he helped me create an actual operating layer around how I think, work, decide, and build. Not theory. Not a deck. A working system.

The biggest unlock was that he didn’t just “advise” from the outside. He understood the shape of what I was trying to build and helped turn it into something I could use every day — something that compounds instead of disappearing after the call.

The benefits were immediate: faster decisions, less cognitive load, and a much better ability to turn scattered ideas into shipped work. It also gave me a clearer way to see my own patterns, priorities, and blind spots.

I’d absolutely recommend David to anyone who is building something complex and needs more than generic coaching or another SaaS tool. He helps you find the architecture underneath your ambition — and then helps you actually operate it.

It changed my life because it changed my relationship to my own work.

I'd heard about OpenClaw, but the sensational mishaps and general complexity of setting it up correctly made it daunting. David not only guided me through setup but also helped me focus on the first real applications for my business: a daily website check-up across 30 domains and a multi-platform "pain point discussion finder" for the problem that our app solves. He also didn't leave me hanging. After a couple of bumps in the road, I was off to the races, and my questions soon turned into excited reports of what my AI "employee" was performing.

My Master Agent "Nexus" acts as my augmented memory repo and has been upgraded with marketing and coding sub-agents (each with their own skills and character), and as our trust in collaboration grows, I'm handing off more and more little projects. David helped unlock all of this, and I'm excited to see where this goes!
